At Manchester United, however, a major inquest has already begun, with Erik ten Hag having made considerable progress over the past few months, but the impact of this heavy defeat potentially being telling.
"You've got to remember you've got top international players, you've got World Cup winners. Shaw just, I can't think what he is doing. Erik ten Hag had his players in early for a post-match debrief on Monday morning, while Fernandes has escaped punishment after he appeared to come into contact with the assistant referee.
During Sky Sports' commentary of the match, Gary Neville claimed that Fernandes was asking to come off when Marcus Rashford was replaced, but Manchester United says he was asking which position he was going to play.
For Liverpool's players, the celebrations cannot last too long, with Bournemouth to come next weekend and Andy Robertson already talking up the importance of that game, but the confidence it will breed can only be a major positive.
"Fernandes' body language today was disgraceful," said Keane, speaking on Sky Sports' coverage of the match. Liverpool.com says: Fernandes might not have asked to come off the pitch, but his body language while on it was not befitting of someone who was the captain on the day. The Portugal midfielder did nothing of note apart from lambasting the referee, Andy Madley, when Manchester United was unfortunate not to get a few more yellow cards.
